The Development and Communications Director (DCD) is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated fundraising professional with marketing/communications experience to assume a critical role in a fast-paced grassroots advocacy organization. The successful DCD is a mission-focused, collaborative, results-driven, and creative leader with experience in growing a diverse revenue portfolio and relationships, and building and amplifying a positive brand position. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the DCD’s primary responsibility is to develop, lead, and manage the development and communications strategies, goals, and functions of NARAL Pro-Choice Washington. The objective of this position is to ensure sufficient and sustainable resources are brought in to advance our mission, and that high-level strategic decisions are made to steward major donors, sponsors, and foundations towards giving to NARAL Pro-Choice Washington & NARAL Pro-Choice Washington Foundation.
A successful DCD will be excited by the opportunity to be creative while strengthening both traditional and new fundraising channels. The DCD will also create and execute, in consultation with other NARAL Pro-Choice Washington staff and leadership, a communications strategy that successfully highlights and advances the power of our Political and Organizing work. NARAL Pro-Choice Washington is committed to living our values throughout our work, so a successful DCD will also be comfortable with the principles of community-centric fundraising (CCF).
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: The DCD reports to the Executive Director. They will also communicate regularly with the Fundraising Committee of the Board of Directors.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: The DCD will supervise the Communications Manager, as well as one or more interns, and may oversee the work of fundraising-related consultants or volunteers for specific projects. Additional fundraising staff may be hired in the future. The DCD will also oversee the hourly Data Coordinator position.

Support NARAL Pro-Choice Washington’s programmatic and organizational goals through sustainable and renewable philanthropic dollars from individuals, foundations, and corporations. Spearhead development efforts as NARAL Pro-Choice Washington continues to grow. Opportunity to build the development function. Specific tasks include:

Set and guide the strategy for all communications, website, and public relations messages and collateral to consistently articulate NARAL Pro-Choice Washington’s mission, vision, and values. Ensure that NARAL Pro-Choice Washington is viewed as a trusted source, disseminator, and conduit of information about reproductive freedom. Opportunity to help build NARAL Pro-Choice Washington’s voice. Specific tasks include:

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Must be able to stand, walk, sit, climb stairs and occasionally lift up to 25 pounds from floor to waist high. Work is primarily performed in a small office environment while operating standard office equipment. Full-time position, but some flexibility in hours possible for the right candidate. Occasional evenings and weekend work likely. Travel within State may be necessary, but infrequent.
