To bring about this better world, we are building community-based funds that make it possible for underserved students to invest in their education in a way that is fair, equitable and ultimately sustainable such that these funds can support all students who can benefit from them. 

About the Role  

Better Future Forward (BFF) is seeking an experienced, self-driven Vice President, Advancement to design and implement its comprehensive development strategy, create a strategic marketing and communications plan, and build and manage the systems and operations of a high-performing Advancement team. The Vice President, Advancement cultivates significant relationships with corporate and foundation partners and individual major donor prospects to build a base of committed supporters that positions BFF for long-term success. As a key member of the senior leadership team, The Vice President, Advancement will work in trusted partnership with the Founder & CEO to ensure BFF has the capital and brand visibility needed to grow and expand its impact.  

Duties and Responsibilities 

Development (75%) 

  • In collaboration with the Founder & CEO and Advancement team, design and implement a comprehensive strategic development program and capital fundraising initiatives to engage existing supporters, cultivate new funder prospects, and meet revenue goals with year over year growth  
  • Identify, cultivate, and solicit a robust portfolio of corporate, foundations, major donors, and impact investors (both regional and national)  
  • Develop systems and strategies that enable development team members to grow funder portfolios and pipeline to meet organization performance metrics 
  • Work with finance to monitor budget and provide regular reporting on fundraising progress toward goals  
  • Research and remain knowledgeable of funding sources and trends  
  • Build, develop, and manage development team members, including hiring and performance management 

Marketing & Communications (25%) 

  • Direct marketing and communications team members to develop and maintain a clear, consistent brand voice, internal and external messaging, and visual identity   
  • Manage marketing and communications team members in creating and implementing the organization's strategic marketing and communications plan, including an editorial calendar, email marketing, and social media  
  • Oversee design, production and distribution of external communications, reports, and other outreach collateral  
  • Oversee the organization’s public/media relations activities 
  • Build, develop, and manage marketing and communications team members, including hiring and performance management

Requirements and Qualifications 

  • A deep commitment to Better Future Forward’s mission  
  • 10+ years professional experience in nonprofit fundraising with demonstrated success in fundraising  
  • Ability to develop and implement strategic plans without close oversight 
  • Strong management and leadership skills, both strategic and operational, with a demonstrated ability to build, develop, and motivate a team of staff and consultants 
  • Proven ability to cultivate, solicit, and steward charitable contributions and other funding at the six and seven-figure level   
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with an ability to effectively influence 
  • Understanding of education finance, policy, and program related investments (PRIs) preferred 
  • Salesforce experience a plus
