Title: Senior Associate for Organizational Equity

Reports To: Chief Equity and Inclusion Officer

Location: US Home Based Office

Start Date: August 15, 2021

 

Summary: Facing History and Ourselves is looking for a Senior Associate for Organizational Equity who will help administer the design, development, and execution of initiatives to support our diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) strategy. This role reports to a Chief Equity and Inclusion Officer within the team and serves as an essential part of the Office of Equity and Inclusion (OEI) team. This role will work closely with the OEI team and internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities Include: 

Facing History’s Internal DEl Work (70%):

  • Working closely with the Chief Equity and Inclusion Officer, help to structure, build and direct the implementation of the organizational-wide DEI strategy.  This includes but is not limited to  a clearly articulated mission, guiding principles, goals, priorities, and metrics. Fluently engage with and influence partners at all levels across the organization in the planning and execution process. 
  • Develop strategic approaches for the creation and effective adoption of DEI and related programs.
  • Lead  the design,  implementation, and management of Employee Resource Groups.
  • Set the learning agenda for our teams, identify what resources we should provide, and help develop content when needed. Look for opportunities to scale learning resources across teams. 
  • Partner closely with HR and Talent to bring DEI lens to organization-wide policies, processes, and procedures including talent attraction and recruitment, onboarding, development, performance management, and recognition. Ensure teams are following agreed-upon processes and when they are not, help to mitigate that risk. Document and manage new processes that would arise from identified opportunities.
  • Serve as a key member of the DEI Strategy team, helping to guide the team and implement strategic decisions. Lead the Facing History DEI advisory team, which advises on organization-wide strategy around DEI initiatives. 
  • Partner closely with the Advancement team around Facing History’s corporate engagement initiative to design corporate enrichment events, train facilitation team, and serve as lead facilitator for corporate engagement activities.
  • Act as liaison between OEI and Institutional Partnerships, especially corporate engagement. 
  • Help to lead the corporate engagement program from a DEI perspective. 

Office of Equity and Inclusion School-based Equity Work (30%):

  • In partnership with Associate Director, help deliver our current and relevant model of Facing History’s Program Equity work with educators and schools.

Qualifications

Experience / Skills / Qualifications

  • A minimum of 3-5 years in similar role, creating measurable DEI impact.
  • Excellent facilitation skills, with experience leading training sessions and discussions that shift mindset and adaptation of behavior changes.  
  • Ability to work and thrive in fast paced environment, balancing time across a wide range of activities and prioritizing the most impactful work.
  • Broad and diverse experience around DEI work in a multitude of settings, including corporate, education, non-profit.
  • Demonstrated understanding of allyship in both theory and practice. 
  • Commitment and ability to articulate Facing History’s mission; commitment to social justice approach.
  • Proven excellence in verbal and written communication.
  • Certification in DEI work preferred but not required.
