Overview of the role

The Internal Communications Manager is a new role that will help build and scale a cross-team internal communications function. Over the last few years, The Trevor Project has tripled its staff and volunteers, with growing teams that now work remotely across the country. This role will collaborate with teams spanning the organization to communicate information clearly and effectively, manage internal messaging, and support transparency and morale among staff. An ideal candidate will be a strong writer/editor, have extensive experience collaborating with other teams on messaging, and will understand that internal communications is more strategic than a memo.

What you’ll do

  • Bring professional experience working in writing-intensive fields such as journalism, communications, or copywriting

  • Use strong interpersonal and project management skills to collaborate across teams to build a new, scalable internal communications function. Create and maintain an internal communications calendar

  • Synthesize internal stakeholders’ core activities and goals into high-quality, thoughtful internal communications messages

  • Draft and edit a variety of internal communications, including memos, messaging documents, talking points for internal speaking engagements, staff and volunteer newsletters, org-wide Slack announcements, and more

  • Coach executives and give feedback on any important internal remarks they make to the organization

  • Manage stakeholder approval process and the distribution of internal communications 

  • Build relationships across departments - with a focus on People Operations and Organizational Performance - and establish regular points of contact to stay ahead of upcoming internal announcements

  • Collaborate on owned marketing campaigns as part of the Growth team that promote the health and well-being of LGBTQ young people

  • Ensure internal communications adhere to AP Stylebook and internal brand guide
