Job Description

The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities (CBPP) is a high-caliber strategic policy institute that informs and shapes public policies to reduce poverty, promote equity, and build opportunity and engages on how to raise the revenues necessary to support public investments. It has a national reputation for conducting rigorous research and analysis, developing evidence-based policy ideas and strategies, shaping a broad array of policy debates at the federal and state levels, and influencing policy outcomes and program implementation. It focuses its efforts on improving people's lives with low and moderate incomes and examines how policies affect particular groups, including people of color, immigrants, people with disabilities, and LGBTQ+ people. In addition, the Center is known for its unique capacity to blend rigorous, timely analysis with effective communications that enable policymakers and the media to use its work.

The Recruiting Specialist will support the Center’s Human Resources team with Center-wide recruiting initiatives and HR projects. Reporting to the Deputy Director of Recruitment and Talent Management, the Recruiting Specialist will manage the day-to-day aspects of the Center’s hiring process, manage the Center’s robust internship program, and support the Center’s professional development initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all logistics related to the recruitment process, including:
    • Submit online job postings, assist with application review, initial phone screens, and reference checks
    • Proactive sourcing of candidates and outreach that yields a diverse applicant pool
    • Update candidate status in applicant tracking system
    • Schedule and coordinate video and onsite interviews/meetings across all verticals and time zones. Manage logistics for recruiting process, including travel arrangements and expense reimbursement
  • Collaborate with the Deputy Director for Recruitment and Talent Management and the HR team to create and continuously improve our recruiting programs and processes with an equity and inclusion lens
  • Create exceptional candidate experience throughout the hiring process by managing timely candidate communication and a streamlined interview process
  • Serve as a "Brand Ambassador" to expand our internal and external footprint as a nationally respected policy and advocacy organization
  • Manage CBPP’s paid internship hiring process in collaboration with the Deputy Director of Recruitment and Talent Management, Intern Coordinators, and Intern Mentors
  • Manage campus recruiting, including:
    • Maintain and cultivate relationships with university career offices, with a particular focus on HBCUs, Tribal Colleges and Universities, and Hispanic-Serving Institutions
    • Early identification of candidates in their academic career through internship and full-time opportunities out of university
    • Participate in virtual and on-campus job fairs, host informational sessions to promote the Center’s internship, fellowship, and early career staff opportunities

This position reports to the Deputy Director of Recruitment and Talent Management.

Terms of Employment: Full-time, exempt.
Bargaining Unit Status: This is not a bargaining unit position.

Qualifications

  • Minimum three years of experience working in Human Resources, with a focus on recruitment and staffing
  • Customer service mindset with the desire to go above and beyond to support the team and business units
  • Experience working in ADP Workforce Now or other Applicant Tracking Systems
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment and effectively prioritize time-sensitive issues
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills. Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work with evolving systems and structures, demonstrating the flexibility to adapt to changing environments and regulations
  • Ability to manage up and across many stakeholders and communicate across lines of difference
  • Experience working with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds
  • A commitment to the Center’s mission to improve the well-being of low- and moderate-income people and advance racial equity as part of the Center’s work
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience

While not required, the following additional qualifications are desirable:

  • Experience with professional training and development initiatives
  • Experience with campus recruiting
  • Experience managing internship programs
  • Experience in a non-profit organization
