BUILD’s unique program offers students in middle and high school access to engaging entrepreneurial experiences designed to develop 21st Century Skills and motivate student engagement in school. Through these experiences, BUILD helps students become the CEO of their own lives.

We are building entrepreneurial mindsets and skills for youth in communities that are underserved, overlooked, and underestimated. With a 20-year proven track record of providing an award-winning, innovative entrepreneurship program, BUILD is uniquely positioned to build a new generation of entrepreneurs. 

Students engage with BUILD through the design challenge or in school in an entrepreneurial course. After completing the intro entrepreneurship programs, students can access opportunities and programs at BUILD to grow their businesses, explore college and career options, and work through the college application process.

BUILD currently serves thousands of high school students annually at programs located in our legacy regions of San Francisco Bay Area, Washington DC, New York City and Boston. Generation Entrepreneur (Gen E) is how BUILD is pushing for an equitable society to build leaders and change makers across America through digital acceleration, geographic expansion and systemic change.

Position Summary: 

Reporting directly to the Boston Regional Executive Director (RED), the Program Director (PD) holds primary responsibility for adult learning and achievement of programmatic outcomes at the site level. The PD will manage a small team including: Program Managers, the Director of Mentor and Community Engagement and the College and Career Access Program Manager.  The PD will coach school-based facilitators, provide programmatic leadership, implement training and development, and support the program team in building school and community partnerships. In addition, the PD will cultivate a culture of student-centered innovation and excellence, collaboration and learning among an increasing number of Boston sites and other community partners. Working closely with the RED and Program Managers, the PD will ensure that each site is operating effectively and meeting the needs of students in alignment with BUILD’s mission and values, as well as the Boston Region’s strategic vision. 

This role serves as the lead for balancing program quality, consistency, cost effectiveness and innovation as the Boston region develops into a self-sustaining region with increased independence and accountability.

In addition, the PD is a key member of the Boston Leadership Team, composed of the Regional Executive Director and the Director of Philanthropy. The Boston Leadership Team will develop and implement the overall strategic plan for BUILD Boston, create and maintain a healthy organizational culture and ensure that all BUILD Boston staff, partners and students are set up for success.  

Position Responsibilities: 

Adult Learning & Development

  • Lead a team of full-time, part-time and temporary staff with regular coaching, performance reviews

  • Identify and using external or internal partners, provide professional development opportunities to grow individual staff members’ and school-based facilitators’ skills, ensuring program excellence

  • Guide and coach school-based facilitators in using effective instructional practices, including experiential learning, for under-served youth

  • Foster a culture of belonging, trust, effective communication, perseverance, collaboration and overall excellence across the region 

  • Work with the RED and the National Team to hire, onboard and provide continuous growth for direct reports


School & Community Partnerships 

  • Develop and manage partnerships with district leaders and school administrators to ensure effective implementation of BUILD with target students

  • Liaise with community organizations in order to identify community engagement experiences for students as well as additional enrichment opportunities that support BUILD students’ college and career readiness and success

  • Collaborate with the Boston Director of Mentor and Community Engagement, and the regional Development team to develop and manage partnerships with corporations and universities to streamline mentor and volunteer pipelines and other community engagement opportunities


Program Development & Evaluation

  • Contribute to BUILD’s Boston Program by contributing to strategic innovation of program elements and evaluation methods to improve organizational outcomes of BUILD’s four year program model, working in collaboration with the National Leadership Team

  • Foster a regional culture of inquiry through regularly gathering and analyzing both quantitative and qualitative data to guide regional strategy and decisions;

  • Supervise regional data collection processes to ensure accurate reporting and reflection on region’s overall progress, performance and trends


Regional Growth & Operations 

  • In partnership with Regional Executive Director, explore avenues to continue to grow the program in Greater Boston through additional sections, schools, districts and licensed partnerships

  • Manage regional program budget, including staff salaries, partnership fees, earned revenue generation and general overhead costs

  • Oversee the planning and execution of regional events

Position Details:

  • Location: BUILD Offices, Boston, MA

  • Frequent travel between local sites is required so employees should have their own vehicle for transportation (valid proof of insurance required). Mileage for work-related travel beyond the normal commute will be reimbursed at the stipulated IRS rate.

  • Occasional travel is required during the year for visits to BUILD sites and gatherings nationally.

  • Capable of quickly moving about in a fast-paced office environment.

Qualifications

Candidate Requirements:

  • BA or BS degree required. Master’s degree preferred.

  • 5+ years of classroom teaching experience or direct service working with under-served youth. 

  • 3+ years of managerial experience required.

  • High cultural competence with experience serving diverse populations and students from under-resourced communities.

  • Experience with entrepreneurship education and experiential education preferred; college counseling, and/or workforce development training a plus.

  • Proven track record of effectively recruiting, training and managing a culturally diverse staff to achieve programmatic excellence.

  • Fluency in one of the 5 main languages spoken in Greater Boston is a plus (Spanish, Haitian Creole, Chinese, Portuguese/Cape Verdean Creole, Vietnamese).

Compensation:

The salary for Program Director ranges from $85-95k in accordance with BUILD’s equity focused salary bands. BUILD offers a competitive benefits package for eligible employees.  This includes employer paid medical, dental & vision coverage, flexible spending accounts, employer paid life insurance, and a 403(b) plan with match.  In addition, eligible BUILD employees qualify for generous vacation, sick time, paid Federal holidays,  and a flexible work environment.
