Job Description

Position Overview:

The VP of Revenue will serve as a key leader in a growing organization and an active participant in shaping Matriculate’s strategy. The VP of Revenue will oversee all areas of contributed and earned revenue and has bottom line responsibility for ensuring Matriculate has the revenue it needs to achieve its mission. The VP of Revenue is responsible for managing the revenue team, all aspects of earned and contributed revenue strategy and implementation, external stakeholders, and internal team engagement and communication. The VP will work in close partnership with the CEO.

The successful candidate will advise the CEO on how to support revenue growth and provide her with the tools and resources she needs. The successful candidate will further professionalize Matriculate’s revenue strategies, help increase Matriculate’s visibility, steward relationships, and forge new connections with revenue outcomes in mind.

This position requires a drive and passion for our mission paired with excellent revenue raising skills and track record, knowledge of best practices, superlative judgement and integrity, and a high degree of self-direction. In addition, the successful candidate will have an equity mindset, be hungry to learn, and be outcomes-oriented.

The position reports to the CEO and works collaboratively across the organization to engage and align with all staff in roles that contribute to earned and contributed revenue. This is a full-time position with a competitive salary and benefits package.

Position Responsibilities:

Ensure the organization has the funding it needs to achieve its mission

  • Refine and oversee contributed revenue strategy, including with individuals, foundations, and corporations
  • Refine and oversee earned revenue strategy and implementation
  • Partner with program team on proposals, reports, and in connection with earned revenue from college partnerships and other program vendor relationships

Manage and support revenue team

  • Provide coaching support to develop high-functioning team
  • Foster equity-oriented culture with an outcomes-orientation
  • Develop and achieve strategic goals for revenue team
  • Grow team as needed to support organizational trajectory and revenue goals

Engage and support Board

  • Equip Board members to serve as successful ambassadors for Matriculate
  • Develop and implement leadership track for prospective Board members to engage more deeply with the organization and be vetted as future Board members
  • Serve as staff liaison with and support Board committees as needed, including Nominating and Governance Committee
  • Engage with Earned Revenue advisory group
  • Oversee and manage Board engagement events, Board revenue reports, and revenue presentations

 Oversee revenue operations

  • Ensure revenue systems and structures are best in class and successful in supporting revenue operations, including revenue tracking and acknowledgement processes
  • Ensure Finance and revenue are aligned on incoming revenue, restrictions, and documentation 

Oversee communications and marketing

  • Help to build Matriculate’s brand
  • Refine and approve communications materials to engage broader community
  • Grow event strategy and oversee its implementation
  • In partnership with the program team, shape Matriculate’s alumni engagement strategy with a focus on building brand, community, and revenue

Serve as an organizational leader and a participant in shaping Matriculate’s strategy

  • Represent revenue perspective in organizational settings
  • Serve on the Cross Functional Leadership Team
  • Manage revenue budget and lead annual budgeting and planning for revenue team

Location:

New York, NY. ​Matriculate will not reopen an office before July, 2022. Staff will receive home office support until that time. When we do reopen, all staff will be hybrid, working remotely and in person.

Qualifications

Candidate Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of professional revenue experience; demonstrated success in a revenue leadership role
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • A leader who can positively impact both strategic and tactical revenue initiatives
  • High energy and passion for Matriculate’s mission is essential
  • Strong customer orientation and excellent relationship building skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral; ability to influence and engage a wide range of donors and build long-term relationships
  • Ability to work both independently without close oversight, but also a team player who will productively engage with others at varying levels of seniority within and outside Matriculate
  • Ability to construct, articulate, and implement annual strategic development plan
  • Willingness to travel domestically, at times up to 40%
  • Excellent judgment and impeccable integrity
