Title: Compliance Specialist
Reports To: Director of Finance

Role Description: The Compliance Specialist is responsible for ensuring organizational policies are current, complete, and reflect best practices and applicable regulations. This role also manages day-to-day finance compliance activities. This position will review, revise, develop, and implement financial policies while creating metrics to track compliance and perform compliance audits; will inventory all policies, ensuring Facing History has all necessary and recommended policies; serve as liaison with other departments such as Technology and HR to ensure policies are developed and updated; will help draft policies as needed; and will stay current with regulations and laws impacting policies.
Specific Responsibilities Include:
Develop compliance policies and protocols on behalf of the organization or work with appropriate departments to develop policies
Develop and implement a compliance program to ensure the organization operates in accordance with state and federal laws
Determine compliance metrics and establish a system for tracking them
Remain up to date on federal and state laws related to the organization and update policies accordingly
Perform compliance audits to determine whether establish protocols are being followed and where they can be improved
Maintain up to date written documentation and policies related to the organization's business activities; work with the Finance team to keep these updated.
Create compliance resource library for staff members to reference when they have questions

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or closely related field
4-5 years’ experience in risk management or compliance roles
Must have or be willing to obtain, a compliance certification
Or a combination of education and work experience to meet the above qualifications
Analytical – able to analyze and interpret complex policies and regulatory documents
Driven – must possess an insatiable curiosity and determination to deliver on high impact goals. Able to move forward with imperfect information
Articulate – able to distill complex topics and communicate them clearly to a variety of audiences
Persevering – able to maneuver through a complex organization and understand the need to begin every project plan with the change management roadmap.
Collaborative – able to work with numerous stakeholders and lead projects without official authority
Affable and Adaptable – able to meet resistance with good humor and a back-up plan

Hybrid Work Model (For HQ): Facing History and Ourselves operates in a hybrid work model, allowing staff flexibility in both schedules and work locations. This particular position is home-based. Some travel will be required.
