Global Cities, Inc., a program of Bloomberg Philanthropies, promotes skills that today's youth require for citizenship in tomorrow's world. Through Global Scholars, its cutting-edge virtual exchange program, public school students ages 10 to 13 communicate directly in e-classrooms with peers across the globe. Their posts, replies, and digital projects are primary texts for them to learn about other cities and perspectives, and how to solve the shared global issue they are studying. Currently, Global Scholars connects over 11,500 students and more than 500 educators in 51 cities around the world.

ABOUT THE POSITION

Global Cities seeks an experienced, creative, and tech-savvy Education Program Manager to join its team of accomplished educators who design and implement the Global Scholars virtual exchange program. As part of this collaborative and innovative team, Education Program Managers apply a diverse skillset to create student-centered, project-based curricula, engaging and effective professional development for teachers, and a lively e-classroom environment for young people around the world to engage in constructive dialogue about global issues and how to address them. Education Program Managers also have ample opportunities to contribute to Global Cities, Inc.'s evaluation of the Global Scholars program model and research on global competency education, including new initiatives to share our findings about what students need to know to become globally competent adults, how we teach these critical skills, and the tools we have developed to measure their progress.

The Education Program Manager will report to the Education Program Director and join the Global Cities team in managing the following core activities:

  • Observe student work in e-classroom discussion boards to identify demonstrations of Global Cities' student learning outcomes and areas for educator support
  • Facilitate interactive professional development for teachers by videoconference
  • Serve as primary points of contact for a portfolio of cities to provide implementation support and manage enrollment
  • Conduct outreach presentations with prospective U.S. and international school districts
  • Assist in annual creation of original curricula about how to solve a global problem
  • Provide feedback on evaluation tools to measure student growth
  • Assist with data collection and analysis related to key program metrics, including enrollment, e-classroom activity, and professional development attendance.

Each Education Program Manager specializes in specific program areas based on their experience, skill, and interest. Program areas broadly include: e-classroom operations and student work analysis; intern team management; program data; relationship management with participating cities; outreach to prospective cities; curriculum development; professional development; program enrollment.

The work is fast-paced and highly collaborative, requiring frequent team meetings, small-group collaboration, and independent activity. We have a robust feedback culture and embrace opportunities to think creatively and improve our work based on data and input from colleagues and diverse stakeholders. Education Program Managers are also expected to stay informed about current global events and instructional trends in global competence education, online learning, and virtual exchange. This role will also include opportunities to participate in our new work to share Global Scholars best practices and Global Cities' research findings with a variety of audiences, such as K-12 educators, school leaders, and program designers.

Qualifications

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS:

  • A minimum of five years of professional education experience, including three years as a classroom teacher in urban public schools
  • Master's degree in education or a related field
  • Experience interacting with education administrators and district officials
  • Cross-cultural experience and competence, international education experience a plus
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills, experience conducting presentations and facilitating discussion, ability to adapt communication style to a variety of different audiences
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks, projects, and timelines
  • Creative proficiency with a range of classroom technologies (including Schoology, Google Classroom, and Microsoft Teams as well as such platforms and apps as SeeSaw, Edmodo, and Padlet), experience with online discussion boards preferred
  • Proficiency with general digital technologies including Zoom and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Work schedule requirements include recognition of international time zones communications with constituencies
  • Willingness to travel periodically to partner school districts, events, and other meetings as needed in the U.S. and internationally, as safety protocols permit
  • Familiarity with quantitative and qualitative social science analysis, a foreign language, Learning Management Systems, Salesforce, and Adobe InDesign are all pluses

Compensation and Benefits:

Annual salary range:  $95,000 - $115,000 

 

The referenced salary range is based on the Company's good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level.
