Position Summary

Accountable.US seeks a Director of People Operations to help us build and retain a best-in-class team through solid HR operations and communications. This position will manage all aspects of our hiring, on-boarding, off-boarding process, as well as the design and execution of staff training, professional development, and employee well-being. In addition, they will be responsible for managing all administrative aspects of the HR function, including policy development, record keeping, and compliance, as well as internal communications related to HR and operations.  The right candidate for this position will have excellent communication and organizational skills, knowledge of HR policy and internal communications, and a commitment to creating an equitable and inclusive work environment for all employees. The position is based in Washington, D.C. though travel on occasion is possible.

Essential Responsibilities and Tasks

Hiring & Onboarding:

  • Design, manage, and support efforts and processes to recruit, select, and hire diverse talent and expertise in staff;
  • Develop and coordinate all aspects of employee on-boarding and off-boarding including liaising with outside vendors to enroll in benefits and subscriptions, working with managers and other staff to ensure a smooth team orientation process, and conducting exit interviews.

Staff Learning & Development:

  • Manage the annual employee performance review process;
  • Manage staff development and training opportunities and processes that support our values of equity and inclusion;
  • Manage the staff mentorship program;
  • Work with the Chief of Staff to design and execute consistent and effective management training across the organization.

Organizational Culture & Internal Communication:

  • Assist with the planning of staff gatherings/retreats;
  • Define and create strategies to build a positive and supportive organizational culture;
  • Manage internal communications related to HR policies, performance management, and general operations.
  • Maintain the organization’s annual calendar.

HR Administration & Compliance:

  • Work with the Chief of Staff and outside firms to ensure we are in compliance with federal and state legislation pertaining to all personnel matters (ADA, FMLA, Wage and Hour, benefits, etc.).
  • Administer and communicate HR policies, procedures, and directives to staff including oversight of Accountable.US’s Employee Handbook.
  • Annually review and make recommendations to executive leadership for improvement of the organization’s policies, procedures, and practices on personnel matters, based on industry trends and innovative practices;
  • Work with the senior leadership team to establish a competitive and fiscally responsible benefit, compensation, and leave program;
  • Track and document all employment changes and required employee compliance activities;
  • Ensure all staff have job descriptions consistent with their responsibilities;
    Oversee employee time-tracking and related reporting (Replicon).

Qualifications

Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Ability

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred;
  • 5-7 years of experience in people operations or HR, preferably in the progressive nonprofit or campaign space;
  • Knowledge of human resource management best practices and current employment/retention trends;
  • Ability to effectively and independently help staff navigate employment questions and HR matters by suggesting effective solutions and/or elevating challenges or concerns;
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate professionally with outside vendors;
  • Ability to work cooperatively and inclusively with staff at all levels of the organization, from the most junior to the most senior;
  • Ability to plan and prioritize work activities, complete work in a timely, accurate, and thorough manner with a minimum of direction.
  • Ability to take ownership and be creative and solutions-oriented when encountering challenges that don’t have obvious answers;
  • Demonstrated commitment to bringing an equity lens to the hiring process;
  • Ability to handle sensitive HR situations with discretion;
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail;
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment;
  • Commitment to progressive values;
  • Sense of humor and a flexible, positive attitude.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary range for this position is $110,000 - $130,000. Exact compensation package is commensurate with experience. Our excellent benefits package includes health insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, a 401(k) match, generous paid time off, professional development opportunities, and more. Accountable.US is currently operating in a hybrid work environment and requires employees to be in the office a minimum of 2 days per week. Some weekend work may be required.
