Job Description

ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION

Founded in 2021, ATLAS Fellows Inc. ("ATLAS Fellows" or "ATLAS") aims to transform the financial sector by making life-changing careers in the financial industry accessible to talented young adults from a variety of diverse and under-resourced backgrounds. In fact, 75% Fellows are first-generation college students, 88% identify as non-white, and 59% are women-identifying.

With the unwavering commitment that all students should be able to pursue careers in finance regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, or family background, ATLAS recruited its first cohort of Fellows in 2021 admitting 17 rising college freshmen. In 2022, 25 Fellows were admitted, and in 2023, ATLAS successfully admitted 29 Fellows. For 2024, ATLAS's goal is to admit 45 new Fellows. Partnering and collaborating closely with other college access, success, and persistence organizations, ATLAS recruits Fellows as seniors in high school. By targeting talent at an early entry point, ATLAS hopes to redirect career interest to the finance sector.

All Fellows receive four years of robust financial, academic, and professional support, including ATLAS's four ‘ships':

  • Scholarship: up to $20,000/year in financial aid for college education and other costs
  • Internships: four years of access to opportunities for best-in-class, paid, full-time summer internships at prestigious financial institutions
  • Mentorships: access to the knowledge, guidance, and networks of talented, experienced, and committed professionals in finance
  • Membership: induction into close-knit, supportive community of current ATLAS Fellows and Alumni

Poised for continued and intentional growth, ATLAS seeks to become the go-to source for diverse talent within the finance industry. Looking to increase the number of new partners by at least 50% year-after-year, ATLAS has a current operating budget of $2.2M and currently serves students across New York City, Chicago, and Jackson, Wyoming.

ABOUT THE POSITION

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Partnerships (the Director) will join ATLAS's growing team as the organization's fifth full-time hire. Charged with representing ATLAS externally among a diverse range of audiences, the Director of Partnerships will play a pivotal role in developing one of ATLAS's most critical "ships" — internships – by stewarding existing and cultivating new relationships with employer partners across the financial sector, including: investment banks, asset management firms, and fin-tech companies in ATLAS target markets of Chicago and New York City.

The Director of Partnerships will ensure ATLAS's relationships with employer partners are mutually beneficial by clearly positioning and demonstrating that ATLAS provides an efficient and innovative solution for recruiting and developing young, diverse talent. Key to the success of these partnerships will be the development and refinement of a Fellows hiring and matching process. Additionally, the Director will work closely with Fellows providing career guidance and helping Fellows identify career paths within finance that align to their interest and long-term professional goals. And in collaboration with the Managing Director of Programs, the Director will also work to secure mutually beneficial partnerships with like-minded college access, college success, and college persistence organizations with the goal of better serving the needs of Fellows.

This is an exciting opportunity for a self-starter, natural relationship builder, and influencer for change who thrives in lean, entrepreneurial settings where out-of-the-box and aspirational thinking are cultural norms, and who wants to apply their unique skills towards an organization that's transforming the financial sector by creating opportunities for talent that has been historically excluded from the profession one Fellow at a time.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Partnership Development

  • With a high degree of proactivity and on the ground presence, develop a bold, creative vision for employer partnership development and recruitment
  • Design best-in-class strategies to develop and refine ATLAS's targeted partner recruitment strategy to increase the number of and diversity of potential internship partners and/or corporate donors
  • Use data-driven approaches to ensure ATLAS is able to retain and build a pipeline of supportive employer partners willing to hire ATLAS Fellows and/or contribute financially to its program model
  • Identify and foster strong relationships across a wide range of stakeholders and organizations, (including financial services firms, colleges/universities, like-minded social sector organizations) to build a network of partners who can be year-round champions of ATLAS and can sponsor, host, or recruit Fellows
  • In partnership with the Executive Director, help to refine or develop new partnership offerings that support the continued development of the partnership pipeline with the goal of establishing ATLAS as a credible partner and source for diverse and strong talent
  • Develop and implement tools, processes, and technology to best support the partnership development work
  • Build a recruitment model and framework that can project future pipeline needs, drive strategic allocation of recruitment and partnership priorities, improve the quality and quantity of internship opportunities offered, and allow employer partners multiply entry points to hire Fellows
  • Develop and implement evaluation metrics to assess partnership building and partnership recruitment efforts and use data to continuously improve processes
  • Promotes and serves as a culture carrier for ATLAS's values with a deep commitment to holding themselves (and others at the organization) to living out diversity, respect, and camaraderie

Program Management

  • Develop and refine a Fellow hiring and matching process that ensures a mutual alignment between the interest of Fellows and the talent needs of ATLAS's employer partners
  • Oversee the summer internship process between partners and Fellows, serving as the main contact with employer partners
  • Establish recurring touch-points to share feedback and track progress, ensuring a successful summer experience for all parties and continuous ways to improve ATLAS programming and partnership cultivation and development
  • Create and curate a list of internship opportunities for Fellows; implementing systems and processes that allow for the scalable and repeatable tracking of applications and Fellow's outcomes

Student Engagement

  • Provide career advising and coaching to Fellows that includes: resume and interview workshops and developing learning and training opportunities that equip Fellows to be competitive candidates for ATLAS-secured internships and beyond
  • In partnership with the Managing Director of Programs, develop robust and potential financial career pathways that allow Fellows full scope visibility into the myriad of opportunities available within the sector that help best define their interest and professional goals
