Job Description

CHIEF PROGRAM OFFICER

Girls Leadership is seeking an experienced programs professional to lead our programs team, generating impact for girls and gender expansive youth across the US. Our K-12 program strategy is two fold; we listen to girls and gender expansive youth to understand their needs, and then we train the adults in their lives (educators, parents, caregivers, sports coaches and youth development professionals) with the mindsets, skills, and curriculum to meet those needs. We design for the most marginalized girls and gender expansive youth in order to best serve all youth. 

To be successful in this role the Chief Program Officer needs to have a depth of experience building and developing teams. We are seeking both a creative thinker who can inspire ongoing innovation, as well as an organized strategic thinker to systematize program innovation and iteration. Experience with change management would help as our program strategy continues to evolve from direct service to training and curriculum development. As an organization focused on teaching leadership, we are looking for a Program leader with strong SEL skills, and the ability to model and lead the SEL skills of the team. This position will serve as an integral role on our leadership team and will influence the strategic planning and direction of the organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Generate strategic programmatic plan and annual programmatic goals, with quarterly benchmarks;

  • Supervise and coach Directors, including supporting and measuring their progress against annual work plans;

  • Cultivate and maintain outside relationships with educational institutions, non-profit organizations, volunteers and consultants as needed;

  • Oversee program qualitative and quantitative evaluations to ensure consistent quality, and alignment with our theory of change, as well as the efficacy of the program plan;

  • Oversee program design, including program innovation, curriculum development, training content development, and training delivery;

  • Oversee development of program materials, including graphic design of curriculum, training material design and production;      

  • Create and oversee programs team budget, and participate in the annual creation of the organizational budget; 

  • Lead and model embedding SEL skills into the everyday function and communication of the organization; and

  • Coordinate  and communicate to effectively collaborate with Operations and Marketing, Engagement (partnership building with training clients) and Fund Development teams.

Qualifications

Minimum requirements include:

  • At least 5 years of team management experience

  • Expertise in social emotional learning (SEL) skills and frameworks 

  • Curriculum design and writing experience

  • Experience in content development of professional development training for adults

  • Strong facilitation skills and experience training adult educators and/or youth development professionals, both in-person and online 

  • Experience building external partnerships and relationship management

  • Experience developing and implementing program strategy; 

  • Knowledge and experience with use of metrics and evaluation for program oversight and ensuring that program impact is aligned with our theory of change

  • Well versed in educational theater and play 

  • Has experience with design thinking process

  • Self-motivated, resourceful, creative and strategic thinker, comfortable working independently with high personal accountability;

  • Is committed to diversity, equity and inclusion

  • Demonstrates a strong skill-set in project management and creating systems and processes to ensure consistency and quality.

This position works out of the Girls Leadership Headquarters in Oakland, California or office in NY New York. In-person preferred 50% time, remote candidates may still be considered. Covid vaccination is strongly encouraged.

Compensation & Benefits: Salary is $140,000. Benefits include health insurance (99% coverage for employee), optional dental/vision, annual professional development budget, four weeks of office closure per year (two in December, and two in July), vacation time, paid sick time, 11 paid holidays per year, and a 401(k) plan available after one year of service.
