Job Description

BACKGROUND

Meals on Main Street (MOMS) collects, prepares, and distributes food from farms, grocery stores and restaurants to people facing food insecurity in Port Chester and across Westchester County. Most of the food is recovered at no cost, reducing food waste. The organization has developed a network of food hubs, custom designed mobile and pop-up pantries, and meal delivery systems that ensure that everyone who needs food can access it easily. Through this work, MOMS is building community among program participants, staff, board members, and volunteers. This community will be further strengthened with the summer 2024 opening of the new MOMS headquarters at 509 North Main Street in the heart of Port Chester. The light-flooded offices and state of the art kitchen will allow the organization to continue to meet the needs of people in Port Chester and beyond.

POSITION

The executive director will be a strategic thinker and doer with the ability to develop compelling goals for MOMS’ future and create strong and sustainable programs, processes, and structures to achieve them. The ED will be the public representative of the organization, developing positive relationships with clients, funders, partners, media professionals, town officials, and other stakeholders as participants, supporters, and champions. Working in close partnership with the staff and board, the ED will develop sensible, efficient, sustainable operational and financial plans that will ensure that resources are deployed for maximum impact in Port Chester and the region.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Leadership

  • Work with staff and board to set and execute a strategic vision that includes operational, financial, and human resource plans and specific metrics for measuring progress against stated goals.
  • Effectively communicate these goals both internally and externally so that all stakeholders understand their roles and responsibilities in achieving them.
  • Adapt and align organizational structures and ways of working as needed to ensure that MOMS’ programs, staffing, and budget are financially sustainable and aligned with overall goals.
  • Develop and execute plans and programs to fully utilize the new MOMS headquarters at 509 North Main Street, in alignment with the overall goals of the organization.

Fundraising and External Relations

  • Working with the board of directors, realize a comprehensive fundraising plan to diversify and grow support, build reserves, and ensure long-term financial sustainability.
  • Serve as a spokesperson and advocate for the organization’s goals of eliminating food insecurity in the Port Chester area. To facilitate these goals, identify, strengthen, and sustain relationships with a wide array of stakeholders, including funders, partners, and the broader public.
  • Act as MOMS’ lead fundraiser, developing relationships with and raising funds from a variety of sources.
  • Identify potential areas for revenue diversification, including through government grants and corporate partnerships.
  • Collaborate with the auxiliary board to plan and execute the annual Gala and Miles for MOMS events.

Team Leadership

  • Ensure that MOMS has the right staff and volunteers to fulfill the strategic goals of the organization.
  • Provide motivational leadership across the organization so that everyone involved with MOMS is inspired to do exceptional work.
  • Build a positive, supportive work culture that attracts and retains staff and provides opportunities for professional development.
  • Refine the organization’s volunteer program, ensuring participants feel satisfied, supported, and appreciated; leverage the program for deeper community engagement and more robust fundraising.

Financial and Operational Leadership

  • Oversee daily operations of the organization, ensuring efficiency, compliance, and high-quality service delivery.
  • Bring a data-driven approach to operational leadership.
  • Be responsible for the overall fiscal health of the MOMS’ $2M budget, with a focus on building long-term sustainability.
  • Ensure that the operations and finances of MOMS are aligned with best practices and strategic goals.

Board Relations

  • Work closely with an engaged and active board to determine and evaluate the strategic direction for the organization.
  • Develop strong relationships with each board member, ensuring their contribution to the organization is aligned with their interests and the organization’s needs.
  • Partner with the board to attract, engage, and retain board members who can help the organization realize its mission and vision.

COMPENSATION

  • Anticipated salary range $180K-$200K; final compensation to be determined based on alignment with required qualifications and relevant experience

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in a senior management position, preferably at a place-based nonprofit organization or other organization with significant logistical component
  • A passion for fundraising from private and public sources, collaborating with an active and engaged board, and building donor relationships; demonstrated success in fundraising strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated experience developing and executing a plan to take a function/department/organization from great to greater
  • Experience managing budgets and developing new revenue streams
  • Superior managerial and interpersonal skills, and experience leading a highly capable staff in ways that emphasize collaboration and teamwork. A track record of leading and inspiring results-oriented teams to meet specific organizational goals.
  • Experience working with external partners, including nonprofits, local businesses, and donors
  • Knowledge of or experience with the populations that MOMS serves is preferred but not required
  • Spanish language skills preferred but not required
