Job Description

Organization Summary

Broward Housing Solutions (BHS) is a 501(C)3, nonprofit organization headquartered in Fort Lauderdale with the mission “to provide quality permanent, affordable, and independent housing to homeless and very low-income people who also have mental illness.” Established in February 1993, BHS is a preeminent affordable housing development, lease-to-buy (LTB) homeownership, and property management agency dedicated to addressing Broward County’s serious social issues surrounding homelessness and the lack of affordable housing.

BHS is the only Certified Housing Development Organization (CHDO) in Broward County that specializes in providing affordable housing to low-income or homeless people who also have mental illness. BHS manages 176 bedrooms in 108 apartments in 21 owned and operated properties scattered throughout Broward County. In addition, BHS works with 82 third-party landlords to place client-tenants in 126 additional apartments. In all cases, rent is set at 30% of the tenant’s monthly income, and, through partnerships with area mental health agencies, clients receive case management services and the support they need to recover and stabilize. BHS serves a diverse client base of over 400 residents including fragile populations such as: homeless veterans, former foster youth, homeless seniors, unaccompanied homeless adults, and chronically homeless families.
