About the Role

Reporting to the Vice President, Development (VP), the Director of Development Operations is a key member of the Development team and holds overall responsibility for leading and executing development operations. This individual will work closely with the Development team and across the organization to enhance and improve the Development team infrastructure and systems. The Director of Development Operations will be responsible for data management, fundraising operations, email marketing, reporting, and represent the Development team's interests across the organization. The Development Assistant will report directly to the Director of Development Operations.

Development Operations

  • Manage all operational aspects of the Development department and track Development team goals and KPIs
  • Liaise with the Salesforce Administrator to ensure that the needs and goals of the Development team are met and supported in Salesforce.
  • Design and execute proposal and outreach material creation that inspire donor and external stakeholders engagement. Schedule and distribute regular updates to the Development team from the Marketing and Programming departments to cultivate and steward BGC donors.
  • Generate reports as needed for the Development team, Executive Leadership Team, and Board of Directors, including but not limited to current revenue, goal projections, and pipeline reporting as requested.
  • Review and approve research and profiles on prospective individual and institutional donors as well as create briefings for funder meetings.
  • Assist in the in-house logistical planning of special events - frontend and backend responsibilities including:
    • managing guest list
    • supporting registration
    • coordinating the production of materials

Team Engagement / Collaboration

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with program leads and marketing leads to manage the organization's individual giving campaigns.
  • Collaborate with the Program, Marketing, and Finance departments to ensure that the tools used by the Development team are up to date, functional, and approved by each department.
  • Coordinate with the Program department to ensure that BGC is fulfilling its commitments to its funders, developing new opportunities for funding, and keeping BGC donors and stakeholders apprised of its work.
  • Work closely with the Finance team to analyze financial data, set budgets and create reports that involve the fundraising team and its collaborative efforts with other departments
  • Create and maintain systems and procedures for storing and organizing all departmental files and documents.
  • Design infrastructure, processes, procedures, and systems that optimize efficiency and productivity; recognize opportunities for innovative solutions.
  • Support the Development department's financial and gift processing systems, including ensuring prompt data entry of projections, pledges, and gifts received, tracking donor correspondence, and generating gift acknowledgment letters through our database.

Required Skills and Experience

In order to meet these priorities and fulfill these responsibilities, our ideal Director of Development Operations candidate will be/will have:

  • Minimum of 7 - 10 years of relevant work experience
  • Demonstrated work experience with donor contacts in mission aligned organizations or context
  • A proven track record of fundraising management from a variety of sources, including, private foundations, individuals, government agencies and the private sector
  • Ability to use data and CRM systems to set fundraising strategy and priorities, measure outcomes, and drive superior performance
  • Demonstrated entrepreneurial ability to develop alliances and coordinate shared interests for cross departmental initiatives
  • Excellent problem-solving skills designed to meet the challenges of the organization
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with considerable experience in writing and presenting information to a variety of audiences
  • Experience with budgeting and financial reporting
  • A demonstrated understanding of program logic models, theory of change, and program planning
