ABOUT MOSAIC
Mosaic is a national funder and field catalyst, committed to creating a stronger, more impactful environmental movement by funding the field-wide shared tools and collaborative connections that equip organizations working for clear air and water, a safe climate, healthy and just communities for all, and thriving natural systems. With its innovative model of participatory grantmaking, we are committed to making transformative investments that build and support powerful coalitions, bringing in new voices, and scaling the shared tools that are essential to boost our collective power.
Launched in 2020, following a two-year decision process that engaged a diverse set of more than 100 stakeholders, Mosaic is led by a rotating Leadership Council of members from environmental, justice, and philanthropic organizations and supported by a small staff. With proposals from the field, the Mosaic makes grants to support field-wide capacity building through four key areas– narrative, leadership development, shared resources, and fostering relationships within the environmental and justice communities. In its first four years, Mosaic has invested $26 million toward movement infrastructure, benefiting over 5,700 organizations.
THE OPPORTUNITY
Impact is at the heart of Mosaic’s mission. As one of the only funders exclusively focused on building movement infrastructure—the connections and shared resources all movements need—Mosaic is committed to building the power necessary for lasting environmental and social change. A stable climate, clean air and water, healthy communities, and thriving natural systems all hang in the balance during this critical decade. Mosaic was created in response to a collective recognition that, although the U.S. environmental movement has achieved historic victories, the pace and scale of the challenge we face demand even more. The environmental movement will only achieve climate and environmental goals with a stronger, better-connected movement that is capable of driving and sustaining meaningful change.
