The Vinalhaven Community Development Partnership (VHCDP) is seeking applications from qualified individuals who have experience in community-based nonprofits as well as expertise and a keen interest in community development and business support.
VHCDP was established in 2023-2024 as a nonprofit organization, and is focused on supporting Vinalhaven as a resilient community through strategies focused on small business support, economic diversification, workforce training and education, and enhancing community resources. The VHCDP board of directors has completed strategic planning and identified an initial scope of work.
Information about VHCDP’s organization and areas of focus is available at vhcdp.org.
Vinalhaven is the largest of Maine’s unbridged islands, with a year-round population of about 1,300. Over 65% of the Vinalhaven population is self-employed, working in the lobster fishing industry, aquaculture, year-round retail, trades and service businesses, and in seasonal and tourism enterprises.
Vinalhaven is defined by its incredible beauty, tight-knit community, and enduring natural resources and marine heritage. External forces such as access to affordable housing, workforce availability, fishery populations, market economics, and climate change impact the nature and vitality of the island. State agencies, regional organizations, local nonprofits, and the local government are striving to address the complex challenges that threaten the island’s vitality. VHCDP is working consciously in alignment with these entities, aspiring to meet the needs of the community’s economic sectors through multiple initiatives.
The VHCDP board is now seeking a Managing Director to provide the organization with nonprofit management, program development, and related services related to community development.
The successful candidate is expected to initially provide this support on a part-time basis. The initial contract period will be one year with the option to renew; the VHCDP board is looking to build a long-term relationship with the right person to eventually serve as a full-time Managing Director. The initial contract amount will be determined by a combination of experience and scope of work. Work may be performed remotely, but some in-person time will be required.
VHCDP is considering applicants on a rolling basis and will accept applications until the position is filled.
