The Nellie Mae Education Foundation has worked for almost 25 years to help our region prosper by preparing all its learners for success. We believe that the success of New England is directly related to the health of its schools, youth-serving institutions, and the network of youth, educator, parent, and community organizers and organizations that ensure youth and families are seen, understood, and their needs met.
We invest in community-rooted solutions that advance our mission of championing efforts that prioritize community goals, address the long-standing barriers that prevent equal access to opportunities, redesign systems to ensure race and ethnicity don't determine success, and advance excellent, student-centered education for all New England youth.
Our grantees do essential work across the region to ensure students have the resources, support, and opportunities necessary to succeed in the classroom and beyond.
We fund four areas:
- Portfolio 1: To strengthen the ecosystem of youth, educator, parent, and community organizers and organizations that support schools to see, understand, and meet the unique needs of students.
- Portfolio 2: To increase the number of school, district, and state education leaders with the knowledge, skill, and will to enact policies and practices that lead to just and equitable student outcomes.
- Portfolio 3: To build will and shared vision across diverse individuals and groups; support grassroots and grass-tops organizations to advance resource equity and eliminate disparities in student experiences and outcomes.
- Portfolio 4: To educate, engage, and activate; investments in narrative storytelling, research, and field building to shine a light on achievement and opportunity gaps as well as amplify promising community-based solutions.
At the core of our strategy is a commitment to continuous learning and evaluation and elevating the voices of those least well-served to ensure our investments make the greatest impact.
