This role oversees Yale's internal consulting team, advising top university leaders—including the president, provost, deans, and vice presidents—on their most critical initiatives. Position Focus:
The Director of Strategic Analysis oversees Yale's internal consulting team which leads high‐profile strategy projects and advises the president, provost, deans, vice presidents, and other top university leaders on their most important initiatives. The team enjoys a high degree of internal trust and works on complex challenges and opportunities facing Yale. Their work spans the campus, addressing a broad spectrum of academic and operational topics including setting priorities, improving performance, fostering growth, and allocating resources across the units that comprise Yale. The Director of the Strategic Analysis team reports to the Senior Associate Provost for Strategy and Data Analysis, and benefits from the support and frequent engagement of the provost, president, and other university leaders. The Strategic Analysis team is staffed by some of Yale's most talented recent graduates serving in the two-year Swensen Fellows program as well as a Manager of Strategic Analysis. The Swensen Fellows program launched in 2016 to build a sophisticated internal consulting group to better the university and provide a training ground for leadership at Yale and beyond.

Primary Roles and Responsibilities of the Director Include:
Manage the Strategic Analysis team and the development of the Swensen Fellows Program, recruit, onboard, and train an exceptional cohort of fellows each year. Oversee the day-to-day management of the fellows, including staffing, project guidance, feedback, and coaching. Foster a positive and engaged team culture and proactively invest in the professional development of fellows across their time in the group through targeted trainings, mentorship, and regular feedback. Continuously endeavor to improve the team's ways of working based on client feedback and project results. Lead high-priority strategic projects. The Director will oversee the team's projects and be responsible for their overall success. Project leadership entails successfully managing and overseeing the fellows on: Crack the problem: identify issues, create hypotheses, and execute analysis leading to a well-articulated solution. Design and execute research and analysis: analyze all types of financial and operational data, mining existing databases and creating new data where none exists. Collaborate with and manage clients: work closely with mid-to-senior level decision makers across Yale to understand their objectives, formulate a workable approach, and iterate to create action plans that they endorse and will execute. Organize the process: translate business objectives into timelines and coordinate various constituents to ensure work is delivered on time, adapting flexibly to change along the way. Communicate concepts and results: create clear, concise presentations to facilitate working sessions and final meetings. Source new strategy and analytical projects from university leaders in partnership with the senior associate provost. Build a community of practice at Yale and peer institutions, serve on the strategy, data, and analytics leadership team along with director of institutional research, Yale's chief data officer, and the senior associate provost. Maintain ongoing relationships with Yale clients to help foster follow-through. Triage incoming projects and collaborate on analyses across teams. Join select University committees to contribute expertise to critical issues. Represent Yale with peer institutions to learn from others and to share our lessons.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead and mentor the Strategic Analysis team, including recruiting, training, and guiding Swensen Fellows.
• Oversee strategic consulting projects that impact university operations, academic initiatives, and resource allocation.
• Collaborate with senior university leaders to develop and implement actionable solutions.
• Shape and manage the two-year Swensen Fellowship experience, mentoring exceptional Yale graduates in high-level strategic work.
• Maintain and grow Yale's reputation as a leader in higher education strategy and analysis.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's Degree in related field. Seven years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Team Leadership: The ideal candidate will have experience managing others in consulting and a passion for developing people, building community, and fostering a cohesive team environment.
• Organizational Awareness: Recognizing the level of exposure to senior executives that accompanies this role, the right candidate will have excellent communication and influencing skills, plus an ability to build relationships and navigate a complex organization diplomatically.
• Industry Exposure: Prior exposure to the education or social sector (e.g., pre consulting, post consulting, or during their consulting project work) is ideal, but not required. A desire and ability to quickly become an expert in new topic areas is required.
• Structured and Logical Thinking: The candidate will have the ability to identify and understand ambiguous issues, and develop strategic, analytical, and financial frameworks. The candidate will be able to craft a compelling story, grounded in the analysis, and guide an audience toward a logical recommendation.
• Analytical Aptitude: The candidate will have the ability to run and manage quantitative analyses in a defect-free manner with a deep knowledge of analytical and data visualization tools (including Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Thinkcell).
• Preferred Education, Experience and Skills: Strategy Consulting Experience: The ideal candidate will have 2-3+ years of strategy consulting experience from a top management consulting firm

Essential Duties:
1. Directs one or more functional areas within an administrative department of the University and ensure compliance with University policies and procedures. 2. Directs analytic and research support for educational policies and planning and develops and approves administrative policies affecting assigned functional areas of the University. 3. Directs and establishes parameters for major projects for the department and University. 4. Interprets federal policies and regulations and educates staff and administration about regulations, restrictions, and the legal responsibilities of the University. 5. Directs and implements policy and program modifications and develops standards to ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations. 6. Develops and administers an operating budget for the assigned department consistent with University policies and procedures. 7. Develops cost savings objectives and goals; authorizes major purchases and negotiates contracts that range from routine to complex in nature. 8. Establishes and implements long- and short-range goals for the functional area consistent with University goals and objectives. 9. Directs the development of related automated systems to support the function; determines office policies and procedures for use of automated systems. 10. Directs the evaluation and selection of vendors and negotiates contract details including work steps and pricing with the vendors on behalf of the assigned functional area. 11. Works with internal and external contacts to solve problems that range from routine to complex in nature. 12. Represents the University in discussions and negotiations with various governmental agencies. 13. Directs a staff of exempt and nonexempt employees. 14. May perform other duties as assigned.
