What We’re Looking For:
FoodCorps seeks a full-time, director-level Director of Prospect Research & Management to lead our donor prospecting strategy and systems and help fuel the fundraising efforts needed to sustain an approximately $25 million annual budget. This position is responsible for prospect research, management and strategy; overseeing the administration of External Relations’ use of Salesforce, FoodCorps’ CRM system; and fundraising data management. This position reports to the Director of Philanthropic Experience & Operations and plays an integral role in FoodCorps’ fundraising and operational functions.
This is a full-time, remote position and requires occasional travel for department meetings.
Who You Are:
You have previous prospect research experience and are deeply curious about prospective donors and funders, and energized by uncovering new sources of support for FoodCorps, figuring out where their interests align with our mission, and discovering the pathways to connection. You have experience managing fundraising databases, are detail- and systems-oriented, and are able to create and maintain top-notch development operations protocols, procedures, and documents. You are highly motivated, a fast learner, great communicator, good collaborator, able to anticipate obstacles, approach your work with impeccable discretion, and are skilled at juggling multiple projects and tight deadlines. As a manager you believe the best way to support your teammates is to create and maintain a clear structure of efficacy and accountability.
Primary Responsibilities:
Research
- Responsible for developing and implementing a holistic, proactive prospecting strategy in partnership with Moves Managers to open up new sources of funding for FoodCorps across corporate, foundation, and individual revenue streams.
- Prioritize, assign, and conduct preliminary research on potential prospective funders to determine donor interest and capacity, and assess potential alignment with FoodCorps’ mission and values in accordance with FoodCorps’ vetting process.
- Prioritize, assign, and prepare comprehensive funder profiles through gathering, analyzing, and evaluating research data.
- Manage and train other staff (as needed) on utilizing our prospecting tools and systems, including iWave, Foundation Directory Online, and LinkedIn Sales Navigator.
Prospect and Portfolio Management
- Serve as a collaborative partner and thought leader to Moves Managers by designing and implementing prospect management best practices that encourage major and transformational gift relationships
- Develop and build out dynamic portfolios to support a growing regional philanthropy team
- Lead efforts to ensure donor pipeline viability by working closely with Moves Managers on strategic portfolio composition and management
- Lead the cross-departmental institutional funder vetting process to ensure our funding partners are aligned with FoodCorps’ mission and DEI goals, and will develop a new individual major donor vetting process that advances FoodCorps’ anti-racism strategy.
- Lead three monthly portfolio review meetings (one per revenue stream) to oversee and maintain prospect management, including portfolio assignments, qualification strategy development, and accountability to next steps.
- Directs the process for annual donor strategy development.
- Leads semi-annual portfolio reviews with each fundraiser to ensure portfolio health and hygiene.
- With support from the External Relations Operations Manager, tracks fundraisers’ annual revenue goals and key performance indicators, and is responsible for ensuring the data is accessible to and strategically utilized by Moves Managers.
- Coordinates Moves Managers’ self-directed prospecting efforts to ensure overall effectiveness and accountability to FoodCorps’ tracking systems and vetting process.
Operations
- Supervises the External Relations Salesforce lead (External Relations Operations Manager) and collaborates closely with Director of Salesforce Platform and the External Relations Operations Manager to maximize the department’s use of Salesforce.
- Ultimately responsible for Salesforce database hygiene, maintenance, and overall integrity of the database.
- Directs and troubleshoots fundraising metrics and reporting.
- Oversees pipeline tracking, fundraising metrics, and monthly revenue projections for cash flow reporting executed by the External Relations Operations Manager.
- Works collaboratively across the department and organization to further our DEI and FoodCorps Next goals. May serve as the lead on specific goals.
Management
- Management of the External Relations Operations Manager, with responsibilities of the day-to-day maintenance of FoodCorps’ fundraising database and revenue/fundraising data.
- Ensures a culture where effective teamwork, collaboration, innovation, and inclusion are expected, recognized, and rewarded.
Leadership Skills
- Creating and sustaining meaningful and equitable support for and management of staff and colleagues
- Ability to manage the complexities of individual goals and collective responsibilities
- Ability to internalize FoodCorps’ anti-racism strategy and integrate it into department, team and individual initiatives
- Lead with a curiosity that fuels productive collaboration

- Led regular portfolio review meetings for each fundraiser and revenue stream as well as the process for annual donor strategy development to ensure portfolios are aligned with design principles and supportive of fundraising targets and Moves Managers are thoughtfully and effectively cultivating and stewarding donors and prospects.
- Collaborated with the External Relations Operations Manager to elevate Salesforce as a strategic fundraising and management tool.
