Pathways Reentry Center

Pathways Reentry Center is a charitable nonprofit organization committed to changing the lives of individuals within the justice system and corrections, those reentering the community from incarceration, and those with barriers due to a criminal background. Alaska has historically had some of the highest rates of issues related to substance misuse, violence, petty crime, and most notably, recidivism. While this state has made great strides in tackling the root causes of criminal behavior, substance misuse, and mental health conditions, the Kenai Peninsula still sees a recidivism rate of nearly 2:1 in the first three years after release from incarceration.

Our mission at Pathways Reentry Center is to prioritize and address three main components surrounding reentry and recidivism:

  1. Direct, supportive services and associations that can ease the burden of meeting one’s own basic needs after serving a sentence of incarceration while working to identify and address underlying factors to criminal behavior.
  2. Tackling stigma through community education, and advocacy for each individual, and working to create a balance among stakeholders that is inclusive of service providers, the Department of Corrections, and the community at large.
  3. Maintaining communication and connection with leadership at each level of civil service as a means of engaging leadership and working to inform policy at the highest levels necessary to achieve meaningful, sustainable systems-level change for a brighter future for the criminal justice system.

This mission can only be achieved through a diverse and engaged Board of Directors.
