Health Finance Institute

The Health Finance Institute (HFI) is an independent non-profit entity led by a small team of health and finance leaders. We are focused on connecting capital with need by building public-private finance partnerships and translating evidence to achieve global health and wellbeing.

HFI formed in 2019 in response to a bold call for increased catalytic financing for non-communicable diseases (NCDs) by the Global High-level Commission on NCDs, which was echoed by countries in need of innovative investments in their NCDs prevention and control programs. In 2020, HFI began country scoping in multiple low and middle-income countries, with funding from The Helmsley Charitable Trust, which will be utilized to identify barriers to financing NCDs prevention and control while offering a roadmap of financing solutions and partnerships (e.g. innovative financing instruments) to address those gaps.

HFI uses data to develop innovative finance models that de-risk investments for an array of funders to support NCD interventions, ensuring programs are financially self-sustainable upon the exit of donor funding. In addition to the core team, HFI has an Executive Board, Senior Advisory Board, and Technical Advisory Board spanning the non-profit, health finance, pharmaceutical, and public and private sectors.
